Freemantle were appointed to bring forward this Portland Square site and effectively asset manage it to deliver the best return for the investment company. Planning was initially obtained for 93 apartments within a conversion of part of the Grade I listed building on Portland Square and new build to Surrey Street totaling 65,063 sq ft.

During the planning process Bristol University announced that they were going to be building a campus close to Temple Meads and the dynamic of Portland Square started to change with more interest from student operators. Identifying this opportunity, we submitted a new application and obtained planning approval for 259 student beds within the same height, scale and mass of the residential consent.
